Since 2010, Hernandez, a Realtor in the Ruhl&Ruhl Cedar Rapids Office, and his wife have opened their Cedar Rapids home as a host family for foreign exchange "daughters" from South America. "All of our girls have come from very poor rural communities and they all have their own interesting stories to share," said Hernandez. Each student lives in the US for two years. The first year they live with the Hernandez family to improve their English and the second year they move to the local community college campus. "We still remain in their lives while they are at school," said Hernandez. "And of course since they are girls and I am their dad, I worry all the time." Steve Hart, sales associate with Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors, has set a personal challenge for himself: complete 30 open houses in 30 days. Hart held one open house each day from June 16th to July 15th. He was inspired by, David Knox, a national real estate expert and educator. After watching a video as a new agent David Knox mentioned he completed one open house a day for an entire year, "but that was a little too much for me," said: Hart "I thought that I would start a challenge with 30 days and leave it open from there". Open houses are a great way to market a home. In fact, according to Ruhl&Ruhl Realtors' client surveys, approximately 4% of buyers found the property they purchased due to an open house. When asked to sit down to talk about working with family at Ruhl&Ruhl the last thing Kate Franzen would imagine was her mom tearing up with pride as she talked about working with her daughter. But, as Gina Rowland opened up and talked about her "leap of faith" in trusting her daughter to treat her clients the way she would, that is exactly what happened.
