Regional Cities Offer Homeowner Discounts
Whether you're a first-time home buyer or looking for a fixer-upper, there are discounts available for your home buying needs in our region! We are here to help you find them. Check out just a couple below! Davenport NOW Davenport NOW, a city established tax incentive program that launched in July of 2009, provides a rebate for 50% of the City's portion of the taxes for ten years to residents or businesses who build or renovate a home within the City Service area. This rebate is based on the increase in assessed value from construction, and improvements must increase the assessed value of the property by more than $5,000. Davenport NOW was passed to improve economic development, as well as provide more opportunities to small business owners in construction and remodeling. You only need to apply before beginning construction for this rebate if you are working on historic properties. All other properties should submit once construction is complete. The rebate will be calculated using the purchase price, cost of project or appraised value. Rebates are based on the taxes associated with the increase in assessed value from construction. An online estimator is available for reference purposes. Muscatine Homeownership Workshop You can get up to a $1,000 credit for your first home thanks to the Muscatine Municipal Housing Agency! To qualify, you must be a first-time homebuyer, have a household income below the limit, and enroll prior to signing a purchase agreement. Once you complete the eight hour course, you will get $1000 towards your down payment! The last class for the year is Oct. 29th and Nov. 5th. Since 2009, there has been over $144,000 awarded to class participants to help with their down payment.
