Consistently voted number one in the Midwest for years, Whitey's Ice Cream is a Quad City treat you do not want to miss out on! Established in 1933 by Chester "Whitey" Lundgren, Whitey's grew to be a household name through its second owners, the Tunbergs. A second store was added in 1977, and since then the business has grown to 10 locations, plus a Wholesale Department, which distributes the ice cream to grocery stores across Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota. According to their website, the Tunbergs credit the success of Whitey's Ice Cream to "a quality product, a clean environment, fair prices, and a knowledgeable, friendly staff." And a very successful product it is, being named one of Conde Nast Traveler's " Best Ice Cream Shops in the World" in 2014. Whitey's was also recently named one of Thrillist's " Best Ice Cream Shops in the Midwest." The magazine highlights Whitey's super thick shakes and malts that "can be turned upside-down without fear that even a drop will get away." The 53rd Street Location in Davenport But the family-owned shop has more than just super thick shakes and malts. One of the best things about Whitey's is the unique flavors that keep customers coming back for more, summer after summer. With flavors like Sergeant Camo, Bubble Gum, Cup O' Joe Espresso, White Tiger Paws, Moose Tracks, and many other specialty flavors, it's easy to find a new favorite at Whitey's. What's your favorite flavor? Do you prefer malts or shakes? Waffle cones or sugar cones? Hot fudge or hot caramel? At Whitey's, no choice is ever easy… And be sure to check out the other shops featured on Sundaes in July on our Facebook Page! Where we are donating $1 to Disabled American Veterans for every new like on the page before July 31.
